RTW trip #19: East Bolivia (June 2011)

The east of Bolivia looks like a completely different country from the better known Altiplano. It borders Brazil, which it also resembles a bit (a poorer Brazil). I have to say that I liked it here more than in the highlands. I stayed in two quiet little towns, Samaipata and Concepcion, and especially enjoyed the Jesuit Missions of the Chiquitos.
With this update, the RTW trip comes to an end: it's back to Europe for the rest of 2011!

RTW trip #18: Bolivian highlands (May 2011)

Bolivia has some of the highest cultural WHS in the world. They are located on the Altiplano - so you're at high altitude all the time without climbing up. The air is thin and dry: I cannot say that it did my health any good. Near La Paz I visited the archeological site of Tiwanaku, and then flew to Sucre to see both the city itself and neighbouring mining giant Potosí.
