Australian Convict Sites Gary Arndt

I visited the site in February 2012. In particular, I visited Cockatoo Island, The Hyde Park Barracks, and the Old Government House. The Sydney area locations are pretty easy to visit, especially the barracks.

Medieval Monuments in Kosovo Gary Arndt

I visited the Medieval Monuments in Kosovo in April 2016. In particular, I visited the Patriarchate of Pec Monastery.

It is a bit confusing because there are no signs, and the monastery is walled off like a military fortress. There is a gate with a security officer you have to go through to get to the site, and you have to present your passport to get through.

Once pass the gate it was very straight forward.

Mehmed Paša Sokolović Bridge Gary Arndt

I visited the site in April 2016.

It is not difficult to get to. If you have a car it is about a 2-hour drive from Sarajevo. Once you arrive in Višegrad, it is pretty hard to miss, as the river is the dominant feature going through the town.

The bridge is currently only open to foot or bicycle traffic and it is visible from the modern bridge which is used by cars. There is a small parking area available off the road which is connected to the bridge by a walking path.

Durmitor National Park Gary Arndt

I visited Durmitor National Park in April 2016. I drove there from Sarajevo, which is the hard way to get there. The road is very windy, going up and down mountains the entire time.

Also, I found out the hard way, that they do not plow snow in the park until the May. There was a massive snow drift covering the road about a kilometer into the park and I couldn't drive any further.

Ohrid Region Gary Arndt

Ohrid is the largest lake in Macedonia and is located southern part of the country. The lake is shared with Albania, but the world heritage site portion is entirely within Macedonia.

Ohrid is very easy to visit and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Macedonia with plenty of hotels and restaurants in town.

Most of the cultural and historic can be reached by walking to taxi in town, but if you want to explore the rest of the lake you should either go on a boat trip, or rent a car.
