Domus de janas (T)
Bernard Joseph Esposo Guerrero The Philippines - 13-Oct-24
There seems to be an issue in the use of Domus de Janas in this nomination as some components are strictly not rock-hewn tombs. What Italy seems to be gunning for in this nomination is to represent a larger picture of pre-Nuragic cultures of Sardegna, which includes a natural cave considered as "The Cradle of Sardinian Man", structural constructions like altars and dolmens, and even stone tool workshops. If anything, the Domus de Janas are only the most representative monuments from a vast period before the Nuraghes started appearing on the island. I managed to see the Necropoli di Domus de Janas di Brodu (ca. 3,200BC) in Oniferi

Bhojpur Temple, as it is commonly known, is situated between Bhopal and Bhimbetka Rock Shelter. I did not know about this site earlier, but it was recommended by my friend I was staying with in the regional capital. I took a bus from the latter and just mentioned that I wanted to alight in Bhojpur to see the "linggam temple". From where I was dropped off on the highway, I hired a tuktuk for a round trip with a waiting time of 45 mins to see the site. The main temple is really massive and can already be seen from afar. The complex is easy to explore (doable in 30 minutes) but there are fine details that really stand out and deserve closer inspection. The carvings from memory, for one, almost life-size, are visually what impressed me the most

While I did enjoy more than two hours in Modhera on the way to Rani-Ki-Vav from Amdavad back in 2019, I'm not sure if I am able to grasp what could possibly bring this forward to a successful inscription. The objective to represent Maru Gujarat (Maru-gurjara) style makes one wonder if all styles ought to be represented in the list. This would mean an almost unfathomable well of prospects for India's tentative list, but it does not mean that all of them have to be pursued, let alone all of them deserving. Some architectural movements are more major and central than others. In terms of it being a sun temple, the one in Konark is difficult to beat especially for the relative quality of the extant carvings

In driving around southern Germany, I managed to see two components of the Upper Germanic-Rhaetian Limes, dubbed as the longest monument in Europe at 550 kilometers long. The first one is Castra Vetoniana in Pfünz (Bavaria) and the other is the Double Fort in Osterburken (Baden-Wurttemburg). The weather forecast was not promising when we headed out for Ingolstadt. On the way, as predicted, it started to rain and we could only hope for that it would stop as we got nearer. Lying on top of a hill, Castra Vetoniana provides a commanding view over the village of Pfünz. Thanks to the rain, the parking lot was empty and so we had the whole site to ourselves

There seems to be a shared frustration about Dzordzor in the group. I also did not get to see it during my visit. As previous reviewers have already tackled a great deal about St. Stephanos and St. Thaddeus monasteries, I'd like to focus on Chupan Chapel, which is conveniently located on the way to St. Stephanos from Jolfa, and Darrasham Chapel (AKA Church of the Holy Mother of God), both components of the St. Stephanos Monastic Ensemble. After visiting the monastery, the driver of the rented car took it upon himself to drive us further to check Darrasham Chapel, of which Solivagant was right when he said that it lies in the "no photography zone"
