Tarquinio_Superbo Profile

I live in Italy, on the island of Ischia and run a luxury B&B. I started systematically visiting WHSs 7 years ago. Working with the tourism system, I have long vacation period every year in the winter. As a rule, when visiting a new country, I always focus on WHSs first. If the country is small and there are few objects (up to 6-10), then I try to visit them all the first time, and usually I don't come back to that country again. This was the case with Jordan, Croatia, Lebanon and Morocco. At the moment, in my opinion, Iran is the country where WHSs deserve the most attention.

Vjetrenica Cave

Tarquinio_Superbo Italy - 28-Jul-24

Vjetrenica Cave

To get to Vjetrenica cave you need a car, as the place is located far from large cities and the nearby village is not connected by public transport. Personally, I liked the surrounding area and the road to the cave more than the cave itself. It is open every day with the possibility of visiting every hour with guided tour. Translated from the local language, the cave is called Windy, although, as the guide explained to us (he spoke English very well), the wind blows inside the cave only in the summer time. Since our visit was in Marth we didn't notice any wind inside at all. In general, the cave is small and it is not different from ordinary karst caves in Europe. The real motive for including it in the list of WHS is not entirely clear

White Monuments of Vladimir and Suzdal

Tarquinio_Superbo Italy - 15-Apr-24

White Monuments of Vladimir and Suzdal

WHS includes 2 cities (Vladimir and Suzdal) and two villages (Bogolyubovo and Kideksha). Getting to Vladimir is quite easy from Moscow (train or bus), or from Kazan, where 2 other WHSs are located. We took a night bus from Kazan. It did not stop in Vladimir itself, but dropped us off on the highway near the city. After crossing the highway through a upground pedestrian crossing, we had to wait for a bus to the center of Vladimir on the other side of the highway. You need to get off directly at the Golden Gate stop (the first WHS facility). It is enough to go through the gate and continue walking along the main wide street: Bolshaya Moskovskaya to reach two cathedrals: the Assumption and Dmitrievsky
