No longer a church

St Paul's church Frankfurt (Removed from tentative list)

St Paul's church Frankfurt

The building was a the main protestant church in Frankfurt until it was destroyed in WWII. 1848/1849 it served as German parliament for the March revolution, that tried to overthrow monarchy. The church therefore has special significance for the democracy in Germany.

Since its reconstruction in 1947, the former church serves as a monument for democracy and convention centre. It is now used for several public events, most famously the award ceremony of the “Friedenspreis des Deutschen Buchhandels”, a peace prize awarded by the German publishers and booksellers association.

This is clearly one of these buildings, that have true national significance, but no OUV. It makes sense that the site was removed from the TWHS list.
