Côte d’Ivoire ratified the UNESCO World Heritage Convention on 9 January 1981.

Its inscribed sites showcase a strong emphasis on natural areas—primarily protected rainforests and savanna–forest transition zones—alongside culturally significant landscapes such as colonial-era towns and traditional Sudano–Sahelian architecture. Common themes across its nominations include biodiversity conservation in tropical ecosystems, ecological integrity of West African forests, and recognition of historic urban heritage and indigenous architectural traditions.
