Establishing its commitment to world heritage, the Holy See accessed the UNESCO World Heritage Convention on October 7, 1982.

Its inscribed property—together with Italy—comprises the Historic Centre of Rome, the Properties of the Holy See in that City enjoying Extraterritorial Rights and San Paolo Fuori le Mura, demonstrating a cultural heritage focus that encompasses early Christian basilicas, Renaissance and Baroque monuments, and complex urban stratification of archaeological and religious significance. The Holy See has no properties on the Tentative List.
