Niger accepted the UNESCO World Heritage Convention on December 23, 1974. It has a mixed focus: natural reserves like the Aïr and Ténéré Desert and the transnational W‑Arly‑Pendjari Complex, alongside the historic urban centre of Agadez—reflecting both natural and cultural heritage.
Its Tentative List includes a wide array of natural, cultural, and mixed proposals, with recurring themes such as desert ecosystems, wildlife-rich savannah corridors, centuries‑old cities and caravan routes, earthen architecture, and archaeological landscapes that link human history with fragile environments
