Awali oil settlement
The Awali oil settlement has been in place since 1934 on the spot where oil was first discovered and exploited on the Arabian Peninsula. Its type of settlement for foreign expert workers in the oil industry became an example for those in other oil producing countries. It was more inspired by European type garden cities than traditional local desert or oasis towns.
