Heritage of Chukotka Arctic Marine Hunters
The Heritage of Chukotka Arctic Marine Hunters comprises remains of burial grounds and settlements on the shores of the Bering Strait. They belonged to ‘Paleo Eskimos’ and their descendants, the Inuit. They hunted marine mammals and had a tradition of bone carving for trade. The Inuit of Naukan were removed from their village in 1958 in the light of a possible military confrontation with the United States.
