Raqqa
Raqqa-Ràfiqa : la cité abbasside is part of the Tentative list of Syria in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.
Raqqa was the capital of the Abbasid Caliphate between 796 and 809. It was built in the shape of a horseshoe, with the Euphrates river flowing on its south side. Remains include the great mosque, Qasr al Banat, the ramparts, and the Baghdad Gate.
