Site archéologique de Kumbi Saleh is part of the Tentative list of Mauritania in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.
The archaeological site of Kumbi Saleh comprises the remains of the Capital of the Empire of Ghana. They date from between the 9th and 14th centuries. The Great Mosque is its most remarkable building. Also houses and cemeteries have been uncovered.
