Le rivage méditerranéen des Pyrénées
Le rivage méditerranéen des Pyrénées is part of the Tentative list of France in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.
Le rivage méditerranéen des Pyrénées is a cultural landscape at the south-eastern ridge of the Pyrenees where it meets the Mediterranean Sea. The area comprises different landforms: mountains, alluvial plains, coastline and marine areas. The region is a melting pot of various cultural influences. The coastal area has been settled in the past 2000 years by Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans, Visigoths and Franks, among others. There are dolmens and menhirs, remains of Roman and Greek settlements, medieval monasteries and villages, fortifications from all periods, vernacular farm buildings and historic irrigation. The property is proposed as a transnational site with Spain.
