The Green Route of Verapaz

The Green Route of Verapaz is part of the Tentative list of Guatemala in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.

The Green Route of Verapaz comprises Laguna Lachuá, Semuc Champey's staggered pools, Candelaria's caves and the caves of Lanquín. Lachuá is a karstic lake with a slightly sulphurous smell. Semuc Champey consists of a natural 300 m limestone bridge, under which passes the Cahabón River and atop is a series of stepped, turquoise pools. The caves are karst caverns with speleothems. The all lie in a national park covered with tropical rain forest and high biodiversity.
