Le Chateau-fort médieval d'Esztergom is part of the Tentative list of Hungary in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.
The castle of Esztergom was the royal residence and center of the Hungarian state when it was its capital from the 10th till the mid-13th century. Most of the castle and the structures within were destroyed in the 17th century during the Ottoman-Habsburgs wars. It is now partly restored and medieval frescoes and paintings have been preserved.
