Itineraires Culturels du Desert du Sahara : Route du sel is part of the Tentative list of Niger in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.
The Salt Route of the Sahara desert has been the center of the caravan trade for centuries. It starts from Air, crosses the Ténéré desert and finally arrives at Bilma where the salt works are located. The oasis of Kawar is home to salt deposits, the main object of trade.
