Gissar Mountains
Gissar Mountains is part of the Tentative list of Uzbekistan in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.
Gissar Mountains is a natural propriety protecting an area unique to the western end of the Pamir-Alay range. It has two elements: First is the Gissar State Reserve which protects a middle mountain juniper-forest and higher mountains with glacier, culminating at 4349 meters. And second is the Kitob State Geological Reserves which protects unique paleontological and stratigraphic objects with ancient fossils of marine and plants elements. Mentioned in the dossier are cultural elements, like the deep Cave of Amir Temur (occupied from the 6th century BC and where Tamerlan is supposed to have been buried).
