Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Solomon Islands
Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Solomon Islands is part of the Tentative list of Solomon Islands in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.
Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Solomon Islands is a serial site consisting of representative tropical rainforest regions from numerous islands which hold an exceptional proportion of endemic plant and animal species. More than half of the palm and orchid species found in these rainforests are endemic to Solomon Islands. The rainforests support the highest degree of avian endemism on an area basis on earth, but are also home to the prehensile-tailed skink, the world’s largest skink, and the endangered Poncelet’s giant rat, the largest mammal in Solomon Islands.
