The archeological site of Tanais
The archeological site of Tanais is part of the Tentative list of Russia in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.
The archeological site of Tanais comprises the remains of an ancient Greek city in the Don river delta. It was the furthest northeast outpost of the Greek sphere of influence, aimed at the trade with the nomadic tribes of the steppe. It dates from the 3rd century BC.
