The Caves of Naj Tunich

The Caves of Naj Tunich is part of the Tentative list of Guatemala in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.

The Naj Tunich Cave comprises a natural cave of karstic origin that was used as a ritual site by the Maya. Hieroglyphic texts, painted scenes and anthropomorphic figures from the Late Classic (c. 600–c. 900) have been found. They were only rediscovered in 1979.
