Ancient Towers of the Aegean Sea is part of the Tentative list of Greece in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.
The Ancient Towers of the Aegean Sea are a selection of ten ancient towers scattered across islands in the Southern Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean. The towers were built between the mid-4th and early 3rd centuries BC in rural surroundings outside of larger settlements. In most cases they served for defence purposes, but also as watchtowers or lighthouses.
