Paysage culturel du Lac Tchad (Chad)
Paysage culturel du Lac Tchad (Chad) is part of the Tentative list of Chad in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.
Lake Chad is a large, shallow fresh water lake in the middle of a dune massif. It is covered by a hundred very spectacular islands and islets. Many of them are inhabited. At the edge of the lake, desert sands and water meet in a complex web of meanders, sometimes cultivated. The human presence around the lake dates back to the Paleolithic era. The lake is shared between Chad, Cameroon, Niger and Nigeria.
