Mrauk-U
Mrauk-U is part of the Tentative list of Myanmar in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.
Mrauk-U comprises the archaeological remains of the capital of the Mrauk U Kingdom, the most important and powerful Rakhine (Arakanese) kingdom. It dates from between the 15th and 18th century. Due to its proximity to the Bay of Bengal, Mrauk U developed into an important regional trade hub, with contacts as far as Arabia, Persia, Portugal and the Dutch East India Company. As Mrauk U and the kingdom prospered, many pagodas and temples were built to reflect the Buddhist faith of its inhabitants.
