The Area of Old Carved Stone in Sapa
The Area of Old Carved Stone in Sapa is part of the Tentative list of Viet Nam in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.
The Area of Old Carved Stone in Sapa consists of more than 200 stones with etchings dating from at least 2000 years in the past found in the Muong Hoa valley in northwest Vietnam. The stones are carved with natural images, including mountains, hills, and fields; cultural images, including men, women, and houses; and patterns. Researchers have speculated the carvings may represent early writing systems; however the authors of the works remain unknown.
