Zinder
The old city of Zinder comprises the remains of a fortified town. It is a former capital of Niger and had its heydays in the 19th and early 20th century. It was strategically located for the trans-Saharan trade and the capital of its own Sultanate since 1736. Many buildings are now in ruins. Notable constructions include the palace, the city gates and the Friday Mosque.
