Azerbaijan ratified the UNESCO World Heritage Convention on 16 December 1993, and its inscriptions include both cultural and natural sites.
Cultural listings feature the fortified Walled City of Baku (Shirvanshah’s Palace and Maiden Tower), the Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape, and the historic centre of Sheki with the Khan’s Palace—highlighting urban heritage, ancient rock art, trade corridor architecture, and multicultural influences. Its sole natural listing, the shared Hyrcanian Forests, emphasizes ecological diversity and conservation.
