Ghana ratified the UNESCO World Heritage Convention in July 1975 and has since inscribed sites exclusively for their cultural value.
Its designations emphasize themes of colonial history and traditional architecture, notably manifest in coastal forts and castles linked to European trade and the Atlantic slave trade, alongside vernacular Asante royal and religious buildings.
