Rwanda accepted the UNESCO World Heritage Convention on 28 December 2000. In 2023, it secured its first two World Heritage sites: one cultural—genocide memorial sites—and one natural—Nyungwe National Park.
Common themes across its nominations include commemoration of historical memory, conservation of tropical montane forest biodiversity, protection of endangered primate habitats, and the integration of heritage preservation within community and ecological landscapes.
