Sacred Timber Architecture of Central Asia
Sacred Timber Architecture of Central Asia: Islamic and Christian Traditions at the Turn of the 19th-20th Centuries comprises two major religious monuments, which show advanced craftsmanship in wooden architecture.
The Jarkent mosque was built in 1895 by the design of a Chinese architect, and shows the synthesis of Islamic architectural principles with East Asian and local timber-building traditions. The Ascension (Voznesensky) Cathedral in Almaty was completed in 1907. It is known for its size and adaptation to seismic conditions.
